Abstract:

Please note that the we kindly ask you when connecting to this seminar to mute your microphones and cameras in order to have a good connection.

A dedicated experimental set-up has been established at the Central Cryogenic Laboratory at CERN to study the heat transfer mechanisms of He II cooled impregnated Nb3Sn coil samples, with the primary objective of experimentally evaluating temperature margins in the coil. Both steady-state and transient responses are obtained from the measurements. The steady-state data is used to extract information about inter-layer and sample-to-He II heat transfer coefficients, while the transient response is used to assess helium content within the coil samples, which can be used as a diagnostics tool for impregnation quality and aging mechanisms. Results of experimental campaigns of both 11T and MQXF coil samples are shown and analyzed.A dedicated experimental set-up has been established at the Central Cryogenic Laboratory at CERN to study the heat transfer mechanisms of He II cooled impregnated Nb3Sn coil samples, with the primary objective of experimentally evaluating temperature margins in the coil.
