MINUTES of MP3 Meeting on 27 October 2010:
Present:Knud, Sandrine, Adriaan, Bernhard, Matteo, Mike, Jens, Reiner, Howie, Hugues, Rudiger, Markus, Ralph, JPhilippe.
MINUTES:
-
JPhilippe presented the draft presentation for the LMC. The final version is attached.
* Reiner asked about the possible increase of discrimination time for the threshold for IPQs from 10 to 20 ms. To be noted that presently, it is already > 10 msec, about 13-15 msec in practice.
It is proposed that Arjan/Bernhard are assessing this, using the worst case current, not necessarily the nominal current but could be an intermediate one before giving MP3 green light.
All Q9/Q10 QPS will be treated during Christmas break to reduce noise sensitivity.
** There was a loss of QPS_OK due to loss of communication. Protection was ensured. This triggered a discussion on a possible relaxation of the rule of not ramping if all QPS are not OK. No consensus was reached. It was decided to go on investigating to identify the source and possibly cure the problem at its origin.
After the meeting some email exchanges go in this way: Reported here the last one :
“Dear all,
Nuria's comment is fully valid however LHC exploitation has evolved since the QPS_OK rule has been established. With the relatively long filling time one has now to consider three instead of two cases:
1. QPS_OK lost prior to injection
2. QPS_OK lost while injecting
3. QPS_OK lost during fill
While case 1 and 3 are covered by the present rule, case 2 is new and has been seen the first time this week. I suggest to do some brainstorming on case 2 taking into account as well the additional software interlock for quench heaters, which will be operational after the Xmas break.
Cheers,
Reiner”

Ralph Steinhagen said that stability during squeeze could be improved if using MCBX. Correction algorithms have been slowered. He would like to re-enable them to test them; requiring QPS expert support to assess the margin in case there is no trip. MP3 sees no objection and QPS experts can give this support.
The same applies to the MS during the ramp. The function is 10 times slower now so no trip is expected. MP3 sees no objection and QPS experts can give the same support to assess the margin.
Rudiger said that the threshold for all the circuits have to be re-assessed after the long shutdown (long term work).

Presentation by Markus/Sandrine (on re-commissioning procedures for 600A in 2011).
It is possible to fall back on the 5 TeV scenario. Parameters known and confirmed by ABP.
A reduced set of tests proposed (see presentation) has been implemented in powering pages; to be checked by MP3 members. Sandrine summarized present issues (see presentation)
There was a discussion on tests to be repeated after change of power module. What are the failure modes and which tests can identify them? Based on this, a clear procedure has to be known by EIC [PIC2, PLI3.b1 (opening of 3 breakers), PNO.d3]. The change of QPS Firmware completed before standard test so OK.

AOB
Matteo reminded that what we want to go to 4 TeV has to be assessed: [Ex: RQX.R1 with the NC on QHeater, snubber capacitors,..]
Reiner on RQX.R1: Test to be planned with QH-PS partially charged: to be discusses at in a further meeting.
Snubber capacitors will be installed for all RB.RQF&D but not connected baseline is to connect only one sector for type testing
There are minutes attached to this event.
Show them.
