India has joined the International Particle Physics Outreach Group (IPPOG) through NISER. The details about this group and its program can be found at - https://ippog.org/

One of the flagship programs of this group is to organize Masterclasses at the level of +2.

NISER is organizing a one day Masterclass on "Particle Therapy" to be held on Saturday, 9th April 2022 from 10 AM to 5.30 PM in Lecture Hall-3 as well as in Online mode via zoom meeting.

Please make sure you have the requisites for the hands-on session as mentioned below.

There will be a few presentations/animations/videos shown in the morning session and in the afternoon session, we plan to conduct a hands-on session using software related to the treatment planning that is done in hospitals to treat cancer patients using radiation. The idea of the workshop is to introduce you to the field of radiation or particle therapy and nuclear and particle physics in general. The basic science we do in particle and nuclear physics has this very important societal application.

The registration deadline is the 7th of April. There are a limited number of seats so hurry up and register.

Laptop/computer required to use the Matrad software (Treatment planning):
Tutorials/hands-on sessions can be done with systems starting with 2GB RAM, however, it is recommended to use 8GB RAM or more and a 64-bit computer for: Windows, Linux & Mac (32-bit OS is not supported). The software installation steps are explained in details over here; https://indico.cern.ch/event/1120368/contributions/4704306/attachments/2377928/4062339/README_Installation_matRad%20%281%29.pdf
