4. Long term plans for the activities of NorduCLIC consortium to be summarize for the Nordic CERN Council delegates (see text below and documents attached)
Plan: to present to NorduCLIC Council delegates in December our common plans for this decade. Should be sent to delegates before December 6, 2010.
Status of original NorduCLIC proposals:
Status part a) Design and radiofrequency (RF) simulations:
University of Oslo has hired new Ph.D. student (KS) that will work on the original part A), with the following modifications:
- not necessarily produce three subsequent designs
- instead focus as well on rf simulation for breakdown experiments, in cooperation with the rest of the NorduCLIC partners in the 12TS project.
- the code will not be HFSS, but the SLAC ACE3P code suite.
Details are found in the NorduCLIC document :
E. Adli, "Proposal for RF design and simulation tasks within the NorduCLIC framework", 2010
http://indico.cern.ch/getFile.py/access?contribId=1&resId=0&materialId=slides&confId=101008
Status part b) Fabrication:
- not been realized at all
- Helsinki proposal: had to be submitted before NorduCLIC application was finalized
- instead: the funded Finnish PhD student will focus on part c), in cooperation with Uppsala partners
Status of part c) instrumentation and experiments in the CLIC Experimental Area:
- Uppsala hired a post.doc. that will start the 1st of january, 2 years contract. Person: Marek J. prev. nuclear Physics group at Uppsala
- spectroscopy: flash-box for particle spectroscopy (magnetic and electric field: electrons on the other side, ions on one side) for the two-beam test stand
- dynamic vaccum: for measuring vacuum as function of time might cooperate to Finland (via KO). Will need mode-coupled laser
- rf instrumentation: similar to TBTS rf instrumentation
- Marek will look into this
- get Flash-Box for TBTS up and running, learn, then adapt Flash-Box for 12TS (either make second one, or re-use the TBTS Flash-Box)
budget: probably not money for enough digitizers
- every digitizer is ~10000 EUR (~ 4 channels)
- would need ~4-5 digitizer
RR:
- would gain most by putting money into dynamic measurement
- rf equipment could maybe be borrowed/funded by CERN
Status 12TS:
- HV pulse modulator (solid state) from Scandinova has been delivered
- Klystron delivered from SLAC (originally one of the two foreseen from PSI), it had a "bumpy road", some effects, to be fully
- control and LLRF by CERN well underway
RR: will probably take several months before any real equipment or structures can be installed in the 12TS
12TS time-line: full Uppsala involvement at least for the period of Marek (start 2011 to end 2012)
TBM:
- KO: involved in TBM, design of structures
- mechanical simulations (heat, weight etc), working together with Germana
Status of current activites:
SS: we have 5 tasks already
a), b), c), + exploitation/operation + Aarhus activites
- we already have something that looks promising and ambitious to the council delegates, looks ok for Nordic meeting
TE: should we also push for increase?
SS: agrees with TE, difficult to say, not maybe at the meeting December 2010
- however, if we find something, especially with industral attraction, that would be good.
Going through list of Roberto Corsini to identify things of interest. Items of interest :
* Operation with beam of a long string of CLIC two-beam modules, HW?, ***
* Build and test about 120 accelerating structures, HW, ***
* Four 12 GHz klystron-based RF high-power test stations, for about 8 slots, running before 2016, HW, *
* Several nominal CLIC two-beam modules, mechanically tested, possibly beam tested, HW?
* R&D and prototyping of critical beam instrumentation, HW
* Dynamic vacuum assessment, HW,
* Improved cost model, feedback to CLIC baseline review
* Beam physics studies
(HW: Hardware)
comment EA: we should not feel bound to follow the list presented in detail, since it is only preliminary.
Summarize: we present our current program up to 2012
- funding status
- status with respect to original program
- which items we can provide in the next period, up to 2016
Consensus that we all seem to be interested in the continuation of the the two-beam activites, including the TBMs, and explotation of the the CTF3+ with a long string of TBTs.
TE: will make a draft of text to be sent to delegates, and circulate it by November 23.
Norway: we need to submit our 2012-2016 proposal in May 2010
5. Report on progress in the CTF3 test program
[Postponed].
6. Date of next meeting
Monday, November 29, 2010, 13h-15h.
7. Any other business
None.
