This CMS Virtual Visit is for the 2022 research group of the SPD (Simulating Particle Detection) of the University of Maryland’s FIRE program in College Park, USA. FIRE SPD serves about 30 undergraduate students every year, introducing them to the cutting-edge science conducted at the CMS experiment. The students and their experienced student mentors of the research group apply computing to analyze simulated data of the CMS detector upgrades, and gain transferable skills utilized in experimental high energy research. Similar to the first one held in 2020, the CMS Virtual Visit is the research group’s biggest field trip of this year. The students are excited to visit the detector in real-time and are grateful to the CMS Virtual Visit organizing team!
