echerche Emérite au CEA, Jean Jouzel a fait dans cet organisme l'essentiel de sa carrière scientifique largement consacrée à la reconstitution des climats du passé à partir de l'étude des glaces polaires. De 2001 à 2008, il a été Directeur de l’Institut Pierre Simon Laplace (IPSL) qui regroupe les laboratoires de la région parisienne impliqués dans les recherches sur l’environnement global. Il a participé au titre d’auteur principal aux deuxième et troisième rapports du GIEC (organisation co-lauréate du Prix Nobel de la Paix en 2007), dont, de 2002 à 2015, il a été vice-président du groupe de travail scientifique. Conjointement avec Claude Lorius, il a en 2002, reçu la Médaille d’or du CNRS. En 2012, il a reçu le Prix de la Fondation Albert II de Monaco et le Prix Vetlesen, considéré comme le « Nobel des Sciences de la Terre et de l’Univers ».
Jean Jouzel est membre de l’Académie des Sciences, membre étranger de celle des Etats-Unis (NAS) et membre de l’Académie d’Agriculture. Il a été membre du Conseil Economique, Social et Environnemental (CESE) de 2011 à 2021. Il est Commandeur de la Légion d’Honneur et Commandeur de l’Ordre du Mérite.
Jean Jouzel
Emeritus Research Director at the CEA, Jean Jouzel has spent most of his scientific career in this organization, largely devoted to the reconstruction of past climates from the study of polar ice. From 2001 to 2008, he was Director of the Pierre Simon Laplace Institute (IPSL), which brings together laboratories in the Paris region involved in research on the global environment. He participated as lead author in the second and third reports of the IPCC (co-winner organization of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007), of which, from 2002 to 2015, he was vice-president of the scientific working group. Together with Claude Lorius, he received the CNRS Gold Medal in 2002. In 2012, he received the Albert II of Monaco Foundation Prize and the Vetlesen Prize, considered the "Nobel of Earth and Universe Sciences".
Jean Jouzel is a member of the Academy of Sciences, a foreign member of that of the United States (NAS) and a member of the Academy of Agriculture. He was a member of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE) from 2011 to 2021. He is Commander of the Legion of Honor and Commander of the Order of Merit.
