Superconducting Short Straight Section, M. Koratzinos

Initial goal to reduce power consumption from quadrupoles and sextupoles. Easier logistics with only one dipole design and one SSS of about 3.5m (cloud be made shorter if needed). Shortest quad length is 2.9m to avoid coupling between betatron oscillations and longitudinal via SR energy loss.

Possibility to nest also a dipole to make ~100% filling factor.

Tor asked about speed of magnets. To be studied.

Oide asks about interference between quads and sextupole due to iron, that also brings hysteresis. This cannot be studied with Mike tools. TBS.

Rogelio asked about SR form dipole, HTS is a very robust SC. But photon stoppers have to fully protect SC SSS. Tungsten of 6cm is placed. Two projects approved to study the SSS: -Design of magnets and photon stoppers. -Cold power supply to avoid copper and needing to cool them down.  So far 90mm aperture has been used for the SC magnets. Impedance has been estimated. Smaller aperture would cost less.

Tor asks about beam-based alignment, specially for time-scales. 1Hz

Oide-san: Having the dipole also in the SSS is an obvious merit and Tor agrees.

Eddy currents can compromise feasibility. We will know this
