In the determination of the strong coupling constant from event shape variables in e+e- collisions, there has been a long-standing discrepancy between determinations that rely on analytic models for the non-perturbative corrections, and those that model hadronization corrections with Monte Carlo generators. Analytic approaches calculate non-perturbative corrections in the 2-jet region and apply them also to the 3-jet region. We study the impact of the new calculation of non-perturbative corrections in the 3-jet region and address whether the these calculations lift the tension in the determination of alpha_s. Other findings and considerations will also be discussed.
