"Hunting for new physics with precision beta decay"

The Standard Model of particle physics is our most successful theory ever constructed. Even so, there are a number of profound open questions, such as the nature of dark matter, neutrino masses and the inclusion of gravity. Additionally, several internal consistency tests show tension with Standard Model expectations, particularly in the electroweak sector. Here, precision studies of (nuclear) beta decays are at the forefront of the Cabibbo Angle Anomaly, which seems to point towards exotic, new physics. We will present an overview of new developments in both theoretical and experimental work, and highlight the use of new quantum sensing technology for exciting new beta spectroscopy possibilities.
