Slides of the presentations are available in the Indico page related to the meeting (ArcHalfCellMock-up Meeting #8 (30 mai 2023) · Indico (cern.ch)).

Agenda:

  1. Introduction (F. Carra)
  2. Proposal for experimental campaigns (L. Baudin, A. Piccini)
  3. Discussion about FCC’s week presentation (L. Baudin, F. Carra)

1)

F. Carra introduced the meeting by reviewing the minutes of the meeting #7. The link of the Tuning workshop has been shared and F. Carra indicated that he and A. Piccini would participate in this workshop, which will take place at the end of June.

Regarding the stability specifications, F. Carra and L. Baudin plan to discuss them with T. Raubenheimer and K. Oide during the FCC week.

F. Carra indicated that the meeting would not be very long as a visit to the CLIC module Lab is planned after the meeting to understand the tests that had been carried out for CLIC.

2)

A. Piccini presented the proposal for experimental campaigns: the experimental characterization of the dynamic behaviour of FCC-ee Short Straight Section. This campaign will be divided into three phases:

  1. Characterisation of the existing 1-m-long Quadrupole prototype (2023 Q3);
  2. Characterisation of the existing adjustment platforms: UAP and WEPLATE (2023 Q4);
  3. Characterisation of a simplified Short Straight Section (2024 Q1).

For each phase, the goal is to perform a modal analysis and/or transfer function characterisation to then benchmark the simulations. This will enable us to better understand the dynamic behaviour of the various systems and therefore to refine the simulations.

F. Carra commented that given that the components we want to test are already available, we will not have to wait until 2025 to start determining the dynamic impact of the components of the SSS. And that step 3 will be divided into several steps. This will be further discussed in the FCC week.

M. Guinchard asked if the 3D model of the SSS we want to test in step 3 is already available? C. Tetrault answered that the 3D model of the SSS has been already done but not the reduced one for dynamic tests, although it is possible to make one.

F. Carra asked J. Bauche: what are the main differences between the prototype and the final design of the quadrupole? J. Bauche answered that the two will be similar in terms of geometry but will be different in terms of assembly, in fact the quadrupoles can be opened in two parts, which is not the case for the prototype that has already been produced. He added that a sextupole prototype is also available. M. Guinchard asked if the detailed 3D model of the magnet is available. J. Bauche answered that it is the case so simulations can begin.

L. Baudin added that dynamic calculations have been also done for the booster and that it could be interesting later to characterise the booster’s support. She asked B. Dalena and A. Chance if we could discuss the specifications of the booster in more detail. Are the specifications the same as for the collider? Because for the moment the same specifications are applied. B. Dalena answered that for the moment there is no additional information about the specifications of the booster and that using the same specifications as the collider is conservative. M. Guinchard pointed out that it's quite optimistic to consider the same specifications for what is 1m and 2m above the ground.

3)

F.Carra indicated that there will be two presentations during the FCC week. The first presentation will focus on the studies carried out on the FCC-ee arc half-cell mock-up, i.e. the updates to the layout of the arc elements, the study of the supports, the task timeline, the milestones, preliminary results in terms of stability and the proposal of the experimental campaign.

L. Baudin will also give a presentation on Digital Twins dedicated to mechanical components and its perspective for FCC-ee.

F. Zimmermann asked if it would be possible, despite the short deadline, to prepare a poster on the studies carried out for the FCC-ee arc half cell mock-up project to be presented at FCC week. (action F. Carra, L. Baudin and A. Piccini)

Actions follow up

  1. F. Carra, L. Baudin and A. Piccini will prepare a poster for the FCC week. DONE

Opened actions

  1. F. Carra, L. Baudin and A. Piccini will organise a meeting with T. Raubenheimer and K. Oide to discuss about the specifications. (Meeting #7)
  2. T. Raubenheimer will provide a written document to summarise the mandate, timeline and deliverables expected for the Phase 2 of the mock-up project. (Meeting #6)
  3. L. Baudin and F. Carra will complete a first draft of the paragraph 5.3 on the FCC-ee Half Arc Cell mock-up project by week 18. (Meeting #6)
