Description

Let's celebrate the Library reopening!

The CERN Scientific Information Service is delighted to announce the Library inauguration on September 28, 2023 after one year of renovation. Come and visit our fully renovated and refurbished space that has been designed for you! A light-flooded and environmental-friendly reading room, with workplaces and a vast book collection.

To celebrate this milestone, we would like to invite the CERN community to join us for a 2-day event on September 28 and 29, 2023. The opening ceremony will take place on September 28 at 10 a.m. It will be followed by 2 days of festivities. Besides visiting the new premises, you can take part in our activities:

  • Treasure Hunt (registration required)
  • Games (no registration required, just come to the Library! - See the program):
    • Challenge the librarian!
    • Hold your head high!
    • Guess the papers!
  • Photo Challenge (register your photo - form will be open on Sept. 28)

The winners of the games and participants in the treasure hunt win a prize!

On 28 September from 18h, join us for a LIVE CONCERT:

  • DANEGELD unplugged:
Danegeld is a classic rock/metal band, specialising in playing your favourite 80's rock and metal tunes loudly. For this occasion they created a special unplugged set of cover songs ranging from Abba and Muse to Bon Jovi. Don't miss it! https://www.facebook.com/danegeld1/
  • WAITLIST:
SIS' own Alex Kohls will make some noise for the library with his band WAITLIST. They have been life-performing for almost a decade in the Lake Geneva area. Their original songs are inspired by creative modern bands such as Radiohead or Muse as well as the great classical rock bands of the 80s. https://www.waitlist.rocks/

You will be able to buy drinks and snacks on site.

Please register for a session under 'Registration for Treasure Hunt'

For the Library inauguration, the librarians asked the archivists to lend them Wolfgang Pauli's Nobel Prize. The prestigious document was deposited in the Library when no one was there. It was therefore hidden to avoid it from being stolen. We are overwhelmed with the organization of the event and are asking for your help. Try to unlock the Library mysteries!
