2nd COFI Advanced Instrumentation and Analysis Techniques School (Dec. 9-17, 2023)
The goal of the school is to provide senior PhD students, postdocs, and colleagues the insight needed to develop and execute future experimental projects with capabilities well beyond our current abilities and the required depth to excel.
The school will provide lectures with a focus on Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning (AI/ML). The AI/ML lecture program is designed to start from foundational topics important for modern scientific data analysis, including introductions to Statistics, Numerical Computing, and the foundations of AI/ML. Building on these foundations, the lectures will introduce more advanced topics that are central to modern Scientific ML, including image-, sequence-, and graph-targeted ML, the interface of ML and simulation, anomaly detection, and optimizing and controlling experiments with ML. The school will also introduce students to the topics of Quantum Computing and Quantum Sensing for fundamental physics, and ultimately to the interface of AI/ML and Quantum physics: Quantum Machine Learning.
The meeting will also include summary talks on related challenges in Particle Physics, Astrophysics, and Cosmology, and introductory lectures on statistics and numerical techniques.
