General comments
[AG] QC not in the scope of the present project (different challenges) but remains interesting for us.
[CD] Meeting with Carsten and Christine in Sept. | Evegnii and Mads would come. is there sufficient fund to pay for their trip ? [AG] has to confirm but might not be able to join in person (TBC).
Workpackages
WP.1
[CD] WP. 1 - Do we need other survey methods than the workshop ?
[CD] --> platform for operators / engineers close to machine operation to exchange on developed tools & obtain training (in order to disseminate it locally in the RIs afterwards among the operator crew)
[all] - proposition of Tom Shea as deputy.
[AG] - Task for [VK] : find the right person from CERN to lead this workpackage
[AG/VK] - This is a key WP that unclocks the use of AI for accelerators
WP.2
[AG] Restructuration of this WP and renaming as "AI ready accelerator data on the cloud" in order to balance the weight of the different workpackages. Leader of WP is still to be defined.
[AO] Proposing deputy (or lead) - Andrew Misty - TBC
[AG] Link with PANOSC / EOSC still to be established
[AG] we have to involve people from data management centres in this workpackage (Thomas ccin2p3 for ex.).
WP.3
[All] This WP is central but probably too heavy - we have to try to rethink it
[AO] This might split into two WP
[AO] Added the use cases and the link with outreach/communication through generated notebooks
WP.4
[All] - Lead et deputies still have to be defined.
[AG/CD] Check with STFC (Amy Pollard ?)
[VK] Check with INFN Frascati.
[CD] for the demonstrator (WP4): ASAP as acronym?
--> agile smart accelerator prototype (reminding of "as soon as possible")
[AO] problem with the word "autonomous" to policy- and decision-makers (and possibly reviewers) is that the dictionary meaning of it (away from the technical layer) refers to "uncontrolled", independent as in "not being under the rule or control of another"... that (too) frequently raises negative connotation for technically-unaware people, i.e. it's a risk due to this word for convincing of the necessity and impact of the demonstrator prototype
[AG] Agreed - Need to re-discuss with [VK] but a renaming into something like "Agile smart accelerator pilot" might be suitable.
Transverse work-packages
[All] Creation of a new transverse WP centred on industrial application with ESF as leader.
[CD/AG/AO] Communication and outreach workpackage detailed and more clear now
[CD] Johanna Lewis defines as leader of the communication WP. Possible deputies are Gianluca Valentino and Evgenii. [CD] will check with them if this is fine.
[CD] Christine as deputy for the training WP. [CD] has extensive experience in the MOOC part (IFAST). Carsten Welsh as leader of the training WP. [CD] will check if this is fine.
[AO] discussion on how to harvest outputs from science hackathon --> training + outreach:
- regular hackathons to work on simulation study cases with active learning strategies
[ --> for each hackathon one or more collaborators prepare their study case inside a notebook with the simulation and an example data catalogue -- then during the hackathon the collaborators implement, investigate & compare several different uncertainty-aware active learning methods ]
==> outcome: enhanced results for individual study cases (due to collaboration), published notebook / analysis scripts (knowledge transfer among scientists in view of open-source software linked to paper publications which conclude a study), implementation of methods in python library (deliverable), data publication (portal / solution comparison = deliverable, again also knowledge transfer among scientists)
- rework & reduce the (hackathon) notebooks geared for scientists to be used for general student training
- publish student-compatible notebooks on ARTIfACT website for dissemination to general public
(possibly to run them online on a service like mybinder.org )
[ --> example: PyHEADTAIL playground repository on github*, publicly available via CERN SWAN beam dynamics gallery**]
Actions / Todo list
[AO] --> reflect on the forgotten/not yet included task of the simulation/data working group
[CD] --> check with Casten Welsh, Johanna Lewis, Tom Shea, Gianluca Valentino, Evgenii and Ed Mitchell for their possible participation as leaders/deputies of WP.
[VK] --> Check for the right person to lead the WP1 from CERN
[AG] --> Check for the right industrial leadership and/or DMC of WP2
[AO] --> Check Andrew Misty leadership/deputy of WP2
[AO] --> Add WP leaders to the metamost coordination group + Sabrina and Jade
[All] --> Check with your EU officers / EU projects engineers for the adaptation of the WP structure to infra call.
