We are witnessing a great period in collider physics: the establishing of fast, flexible and automated NLO calculations that provide us with handy tools to model collider observables in the precision-and-flexibility demanding LHC era. But we, as theorist, are demanding even better control over theory. Thanks to impressive experimental achievements, there are now many situations where improved theoretical precisions are required. Examples are the current measurements that show 3+ sigma deviation from the Standard Model in top-, bottom- and dijets-related observables. The fate of these discrepancies can only be settled with further improvements in theory. I will review top physics at the LHC and Tevatron and will describe the massive work being done towards the derivation of the NNLO corrections to top pair production and, facing the future, other central for the LHC program observables. I will also present illuminating lessons we have learned along the way regarding the interplay of fixed order calculations and all-order resummations.
