Wednesday afternoon activities
There are plenty of options for the Wednesday afternoon. You can sign up for the following activities:
- JYFL Accelerator Laboratory Tour.
The JYFL Accelerator Laboratory is one of the largest research infrastructures in Finland. You will get a tour around the laboratory and its facilities. The participants will be divided into smaller groups. The first set of groups will start the tour at 14:00. If needed, another set of groups will start at 15:15. The tour will take approximately 60-75 mins. - Aalto2 Museum at 16-18.
You can enter already earlier but an introduction by a guide will be given at 16:00. The museum closes at 18:00. The museum centre Aalto2 is located only 550 m from Agora. It has two permanent and one current exhibition:
1) Exploring Central Finland traces the history of Central Finland from prehistoric times all the way to the year 2000.
2) AALTO - Work and Life. The exhibition about the famous and internationally acknowledged Finnish architect and designer Alvar Aalto who lived in Jyväskylä. "The connecting thread running through the exhibition is Aalto’s optimistic idea that architecture and good design are capable of solving the challenges – or “problems” as Aalto called them – of human existence and society. "
3) The Pool – The Origin of Pool Skateboarding. This exhibition only available this summer is a concept of four exhibitions combining Alvar Aalto’s architectural heritage, international skateboarding culture, rap and hip-hop culture. - Sataman Viilu at 16-18:
Sataman Viilu is located in the Jyväskylä harbour, around 1.6 km from the Agora building. It provides an opportunity to experience Finnish sauna and swim in a lakeside pool. In addition to the pool, there are three saunas, Jacuzzis, and a sheltered terrace. Towels will be provided but swimsuit is needed. There are separate dressing rooms and showers for men and women. Please wear a swimsuit when you move to the Sauna department, as these facilities are shared by both men and women. Note that you are not allowed to bring your own drinks or drinks bought from the terrace to the Sauna department. Fresh drinking water is available. - Kayaking, canoeing, sup-boarding activities at 16-18.
Location: Next to hotel Alba in Mattilanniemi.
Life vests and all the equipment will be provided by the Tavinsulka company but the participants need to have their own towels and swim wear/outfits suitable for these water activities.
