Free IEEE NPSS Membership

Signing up for free membership is a 2-step process:

  1. create an IEEE account
  2. sign up for free membership

1. Create IEEE account

Go to JOIN IEEE and click "Join as a student"

Click on "Create Account". Only enter name, email, password and accept the IEEE policy

You will receive a verification code by email, enter it to continue to the next page

Here you must enter an address. It can be your home or a university address. Enter street, city, zip-code. Fill in only the required fields (red asterisk) and click "Continue"

The next page will start asking about your academic program... don't bother with it now. Leave the process by clicking on your name in the upper right corner

The website will ask you if you really want to "Leave this page?" - yes, you want to leave this page!

Now you can look up your IEEE membership number: go to you Profile -> Personal Profile and note the number:

In this case it is "90635867"

2. Sign up for free membership

This step is much easier: go to Free IEEE+NPSS Membership and fill in your information - the membership number created in step 1 is very important! In the end click on "Send"

IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ!!!

Step 1 is the normal membership signup process which you only use to create your membership number. Step 2 is for the free membership.

Step 1 is fully automatic while Step 2 has to be completed by a person in IEEE headquarters. Step 2 may take a few weeks after the conference/school. During this time you will receive automatic emails from Step 1, asking you to complete your profile and to pay for your membership. Ignore these mails! After a while you will (finally) receive a mail with confirmation of your membership, and then the automatic messages will stop - and you will receive more mails with interesting information about your membership benefits.

Here is an example: the red mails are the automatic mails which you should ignore, the green mails are generated when Step 2 has been completed on the IEEE side:
