      MEDICIS

Indirect irradiation of #848M carried out for production and mass separation of Ra-224 and Ra-225.

Collection could be started within 3 hours, vacuum went down to 2E-7 mbar, therefore no issue of vacuum following this irradiation (the target was new from this year, loaded with 100 g of ThC). No issue to report.

Ra-224 and Ra-225 have been extracted yesterday with 125 MBq Ra-224 (that left for Dresden, Germany) and 27 MBq of Ra-225 (that left for NPL, UK).

This week is dedicated to Tm efficiency tests in the framework of Ralitsa PhD thesis.

      • From Patrick Macgregor : I am hoping to change the magnetic field in the ISS magnet next week (Monday or Tuesday depending on the outcome of the data collection this week). The field will be changed from 2.25 T to 2.5 T, and is covered by IMPACT 233636.
This will not be done during the visit of the hall on Monday 10:00-11:00.

      Message from GP:

Indeed we had a minor change of focusing at the beginning of 2024:

GPS for the 1.4 GeV Standard focus

      from BTY.QDE209 = 133.12 A to BTY.QDE209 = 134.27 A

      from BTY.QFO210 = 140.81 A to BTY.QFO210 = 142.15 A

HRS for the 1.4 GeV standard focus

       from BTY.QDE321 = 186.11 A to BTY.QDE321 = 188.53 A

      from BTY.QFO322 = 182.74 A to BTY.QFO322 = 185.03 A

The reason was that pre-LS2 in reality the beam was extracted from the PSB to all destinations at a E_Kin = 1.380 GeV, as it was energy matched to the PS for longitudinal considerations, and for simplicity the PSB operated with a single B program for both PS and ISOLDE destinations.

Since 2022 (post-LS2) only ISOLDE received beam at 1.4 GeV, so we could gain back this 1.3-1.4% in kinetic energy, which had to be adapted in the optics.
