19th EP Magnet Working Group Meeting
Present people:
Alexey, Benoit, Matthias, Jarl, Pierre-Ange, Xavier, Maarten, Burkhard, Heinrich, Christoph, Arnaud (remote), Giovanna (remote)
Presentation from Heinrich on LHCb magnets developments. Heinrich gives an overview of the LHCb magnet system.
Round table:
Burkhard: on the 28th of June there was the IFEC meeting. Daniel Schoering presented the responsibilty matrix that was well received.
Nicola:
Benoit: CMS Runs fine. A tiny leak on the heat exchanged of the helium dryer was fixing. There is still some humditiy accumulating on the turbines. The M1 magnet was operated for CMS Inner Tracker and HGCAL tests, with and without test beams. In september HGCAL will repeat the test.
The invitation to tender for Al-stabilized SC was sent to the companies. The business case study from Billfinger-Noel is in good progress. There were already reactions to the tender from Swiss and UK companies.
Maarten: A field map for MEP48 will be required in the future (simulation).
Sylvain: -
Xavier: Smooth operation in ATLAS and CMS. There are issues in LHCb and Alice. For Alice, there was a failure that stopped the solenoid power converter. Also there are cooling issues in Alice and LHCb. And there are dangerous leaks in Alice. Also there is the installation of a new control system for the old T2K magnet for which a work package was signed.
Pierre-Ange: -
Jarl: Installation and commissioning of the power converter in the 168 Magnet area completed. The company will come again to set the PID for the three magnets once it will be possible to switch between them. Also the switch and the cabinet for the power converter have arrived and will need to be installed. There are requests from ISEG and the LHCb SCIFI for testing equipment in the next 1-2 months. PT7 is still not fully operational because the cooling is not fully working. EN-CV is on the case but still no solution. The control valve might be dirty and don't allow the full flow.
Christoph: MadMax and Desy gave a positive report about the collaboration with CERN for the tests.
Matthias: Recommissioning of the vertex split coil solenoid. Mid-july ramp down on the atlas magnet because of a water cooling stop. A heater on the diffusion pump was replaced. On the Morpurgo magnet, the cryogenics people want to check the condition of the recirculation pump as there were some problems with the flow.
Alexey: The PhD student (Veronika) completed the set up of the cryocooler.
Heinrich: -
Arnaud (remote): There are plenty of resin cracks in TE. TE is developing a monitoring system, that checks also for degradation in the conductor. Christoph proposes that the topic might be presented in one of the following meetings.
Giovanna: -
