The observation of anomalies in the internal pair creation of various nuclei at the ATOMKI laboratory in Debrecen has prompted the hypothesis of a new light particle, often referred to as X17. This hypothetical particle could potentially account for the resonant structure observed at around 17 MeV in the invariant mass of electron-positron pairs. These pairs are produced following the excitation of nuclei such as 8Be, 4He, and 12C by proton beams at the ATOMKI Laboratory. The aim of this seminar is to discuss the implications of this anomaly, including theoretical interpretations, as well as to review current and upcoming experiments aimed at confirming the results and/or providing experimental evidence to support its interpretation.
