Travel and Venue

The workshop will take place at the University of Derby's Markeaton Street (MS) site in Room MS016

Car

You will need a visitor parking permit which can be requested during registration. The streets surrounding MS have resident parking schemes in operation so you should not park there.

If using a satnav set the destination to Pybus Street, Derby, as this will bring you to the car park entrance at the end of that street. I believe that the ANPR will open the barrier but if not there is an intercom to speak to security.

Train

Derby has lots of rail connections, being 90 minutes from London St. Pancras, 35 minutes from Birmingham and Sheffield in either direction, 1 hour to Crewe (for connections), 1h45 to York.

Derby station is around 2 miles from MS so it is a bit far to walk, taking about 45 minutes. Other possibilities are listed below.

A 'Unibus' service U1 operates connecting the station to the main campus. Out of term time the service is not as frequent, being hourly at half pas the hour. For the MS site you would get off at the Mill Street stop and walk up Mill Street and Markeaton Street (0.5 mile, 10 minutes) to the reception entrance.

Taxis wait at the station. Be sure to tell them you want to go to University of Derby, Markeaton Street site, not the main Kedleston Road site.

Bike racks are available at MS too. Please contact me if you want a good route from the station!

Building Access

The manned reception is on the NE side of the building, facing an old mill pond with various bird life. If you are lucky you may see the heron! There is an entrance from the car park on the SW side but it needs a card to access. Unless you can follow someone in you should skirt around the South side of the building to go to reception. I will also circulate my mobile number so that nobody is stuck!
