Accommodation

We have booked 6 single rooms in the Bad Vibel Guest House from August 17th to 25th for the international EXPLORE students, so you can arrive a little earlier or depart a few days later if you like. There is an option to have breakfast at the Guest House for 10€.

The rooms have Wi-Fi. (+ On campus, you will have access to the eduroam network.)

The adress of the accommodation is:

Berufsförderungswerk Frankfurt am Main e.V.
Huizener Straße 60
61118 Bad Vilbel
Tel.: +49 6101 400590

Notice: You can check in at any time. Usually, check-out is at 11 a.m., but you can also arrange other times in person.

Bad Vilbel is located right next to the northern edge of Frankfurt and can be easily reached by train from Frankfurt International Airport. You can also take a cab to Bad Vilbel, but the ride would be a bit more expensive.

How to get from the airport to your accommodation by train:
Once you have arrived at the international airport, you can take any train line in the direction of Frankfurt central station, then continue on S6 train line in the direction of "Friedberg(Hess)" or "Groß Karben". Make sure that you get off at the stop "Bad Vilbel Süd".

Walk from "Bad Vilbel Süd" railway station to the Guest House:
Use the underpass at "Bad Vilbel Süd" in the direction of the Nidda. From there, a small path leads to a bridge over the river. Keep left after the bridge and take the next right turn between the tennis court and the turf field towards Huizener Straße. Turn left into Huizener Straße. After approx. 350m you will reach the Guest House.

Directions to Campus

The summer school will take place at the Riedberg campus. You can reach the campus by travelling from "Bad Vilbel Süd" in the direction of "Frankfurt(Main) Süd" on S6 train line and then getting off at "Franfurt-Eschersheim". From there, take the U8 underground line in the direction of "Riedberg" and get off at the station "Uni Campus Riedberg".

The U8 underground line connects Riedberg to the city center, so after the summer school program, you can head straight from campus to places like the Old Town or Sachsenhausen to spend some free time.

Directions on Campus

The talks and lectures will take place in the FIAS building (Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies) https://fias.institute/en/about-fias/contact-how-to-find-us/. The adress is:

Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies
Ruth-Moufang-Straße 1
60438 Frankfurt am Main

You can also find a small map directly via the link above. When you reach the campus with U8 or U9, you will see a large yellow building (the Otto-Stern-Zentrum). Walk to the right of the Otto-Stern-Zentrum along Ruth-Moufang-Straße until you see a red building on your right after about 100m: the FIAS building.

Public transportation

We recommend downloading the Deutsche Bahn or RMV app while you're here to help you navigate public transportation.

Deutsche Bahn: https://int.bahn.de/en/booking-information/db-navigator

RMV: https://www.rmv.de/c/en/tickets/your-ticket/digital-offers-at-a-glance/rmv-web-app

We also advise you to buy a weekly ticket. You can find more information here: https://www.rmv.de/c/en/tickets/your-ticket/tickets-overview/weekly-tickets/weekly-ticket-for-adults

If you choose a weekly ticket, you will need to specify the area in which you intend to use it. For instance, if you arrive at Frankfurt International Airport and your accommodation is in Bad Vilbel, enter the airport as the starting point and Bad Vilbel as the destination.

Explore Frankfurt

As already mentioned, the U8 will take you directly to Frankfurt city centre. We have picked out a few interesting stops for you:

  • Holzhausenstraße: University Campus Westend (next to Grüneburgpark)
  • Hauptwache: Frankfurt shopping mile. From here, you can quickly get to the Old Opera House, the "Kleinmarkthalle", the Old Town, or the so-called "Fressgass," where you'll find lots of restaurants and cafés.
  • Willy-Brandt Platz: Here you get a great view of the financial district.
  • Schweizer Platz: Sachsenhausen. The district is known for its historic cider houses. You can also easily get to the riverbank from here, where there are lots of museums and nice places to take a walk.

From August 23rd to 25th, the Museum Embankment Festival ("Museumsuferfest") takes place. During this event, many museums offer complimentary admission, and along the riverbank, there will be numerous stalls where you can get food and drinks. We've linked you to last year's website here: https://www.museumsuferfest.de/2023/dear-friends/
The festival would be a great way to wrap up the summer school!
