Spectrometer meeting minutes
15.05.24
Present:
Fern Pannell, Edda Gschwendtner, Collette Pakuza, Matthew Wing, John Farmer, David Cooke, Michele Bergamaschi
Discussed points:
- Old spectrometer realignment
o Access by Fern and Collette, slight adjustment made to camera position
o Spectrometer DQM ROI changed to reflect adjustment
o Todo: ROI could be checked by David before run two sets of eyes confirming position
- Intensified camera GUI (DQM) update
o David pulled latest version control room version up to date
o It is designed such that It cannot lag throws away data if delay exceeds threshold
o Todo: Background subtraction to be checked
- New spectrometer upgrade
o Camera array has now been expanded to 7 cameras
o 2 ethernet cables not working. Collette obtained two replacements.
o Supports are in place for mounting high-res camera, supported by m BI-ML and BI-SW
o Plans to mount high-res camera at sufficient angle such that it’s removed from beam path and does not obscure old spectrometer camera. May not be possible to avoid obstructing old spectrometer camera – assess.
o Waiting on bandpass filters not a dealbreaker, but should arrive ahead of plunger run.
o Todo: Fern and Collette to access (May 16th) to pull 2 ethernet cables. Additional access(es) in run2 to work on high-res camera mount and installation
- Background studies
o Test with LBDP2 in April electron signal seen in a single shot through the dump. Promising ahead of the plunger run.
o Parasitic background measurements on old spectrometer difficult when we do not know what screens are on the line. Michele states their positions were added to the event builder from week 2 of run1.
o John asks about background divergences from screen. David states divergence of proton beam makes the biggest difference.
o Fern created summing script – continuously sums events from the old spectrometer to help with signal identification in high background
o Todo: Fern to produce background numbers/plots (variation, signal:noise, energy spread) and compare with David’s simulations
- Magnet lookup tables
o Typical dipole settings for beam energy / position on screen
o Quadrupole settings for beam energy / plasma length
o Todo: David to produce these
- Expectation for emittance
o Event candidates have been identified from October 23 and April 24 data
o Todo: Fern (support from David) to analyse
- CLEAR
o Experiment conducted April 22nd – 26th
o Knife edge experiment enhanced and performed in detail
o Todo: Fern to analyse data. Edda states this is low priority for now, due to more pressing tasks ahead of run3.
- AOB
o Marlene submitted cabling list with Eloïse
o David sent emittance paper to collaboration comments until May 20th
o Fern working on New Spectrometer DQM (highest priority)
o Dipole logging current to event builder issue resolved
o UCL plan to write a technical paper on spectrometer upgrades
