Participants: Fernando, Manuel, Frank, Federico, Domenico, Clara, Svetozar, Bobby, Oliver, Peter (R), Piotr, Joao, Peter (C), Jim, Giacinto, Antonio, Wayne 17th March 2006 1) LHCb Farm Monitoring and Control Component Clara introduced Federico and Domenico who have done the development of the Farm Monitoring and Control component for LHCb. Federico then gave an overview of this components, its status and planned further developments. His presentation is attached. The component has three main functional elements; monitoring of PC parameters, a task manager for starting/stopping processes and IPMI. The discussion following the presentation showed that the experiments had different approaches for managing their PCs. For CMS the DCS is relying on the DAQ people for PC monitoring with no need for integration into PVSS. For ATLAS the situation is not yet clear. For ALICE the machines will be largely Windows machines and integration into PVSS is beneficial. However, Peter also noted that the Windows tools themselves provided much of the functionality of this component. Nonehteless he would be interested in using the component probably with the control functionality disabled. 2) Interaction between FSM and Config DB Fernando gave a presentation and short demo on his prototype implementation of the interaction between the FSM and config DB. He raised a number of questions regarding this which generated quite some discussion. Hise slides, including these questions, are attached. The general proposal was accepted but it was agreed that the people present should go away and reflect on this further and in particular to the questions he raised. Any comments should be sent to Fernando who will compile these and if necessary refine the proposal.
