ADTC
News from operation: Laurette summarized the past 4 weeks of operation of AD and ELENA machines. The number of pbars injected in AD and distributed to the experiments are rather stable and close to their record levels with stable deceleration efficiencies in both machines. Some fluctuations at the level of about 5% over a week are nevertheless observed, the origin being identified from the number of protons hitting the target. The horn was replaced early September after arcing issues. Since then it is operated at slightly sub-normal voltage, resulting in an estimated 5% loss in pbars yield. An unexplained vacuum bump is observed regularly every 3 hours in sector 2B (near C10 RF cavities). Investigations ongoing.
ELENA encountered some issues after the power cut, necessitating the exchange of a vacuum gauge, a kicker thyratron, and necessitating a full control of the ion source vacuum system.
Pbars have been injected for the first time in LNE03 vertical segment, leading to TELMAX new test beam line and exp area. All components are in good shape, with a few dead channels in the (fixed) SEM and possibly inverted Focusing/Defocusing connexions on the last ZQNA (TBC with a more systematic error search).
Summary of LEAP conference: Davide being absent, this talk will be on the next agenda
Status of TELMAX area: Francois presented the status of the new TELMAX zone, dedicated to test beam, both for machine and experiments components. All the infrastructure is in place, except cooling water (installation date TBC) and some signal cables (during YETS). DSO tests have been validated and first beam was observed on the SEM at the entrance of the zone (see talk by Laurette). 2 collaboration already expressed their interest to take beam for setup tests. The paper work to request beam time has been prepared in collaboration with the physics coordinator and is now online. It is intended to add an additional bend to have the possibility of an horizontal beam in TELMAX, although this setup will be kept easily removable. Installation planned during LS3, ECR pending.
Next YETS planning: Francois presented the planning for next YETS, including the anticipated services disruptions. The dates of the cryo plant stop are not known yet and will be added asap. The main expected operations in the AD ring concern the extraction of 2 main magnets for refurbishment. BHN17 and QDN26 are both in vacuum sector 2B. Significant shielding opening will be required for these operations. As these are on the critical path for restarting the beam, careful planning has been established. Works in ELENA will be limited to maintenance on the ion source and on the kicker + TMR. ELENA machine will be restarted asap with Hminus ions (planned date 21st of Feb). The restart planning for AD is still provisional and shows first protons on target on 26th of March an start of physics towards 25th of April.
AOB: -It is requested that the old ATRAP detectors are removed from the stochastic cooling platform. James and Francois will contact Gunn.
-The date shown for ELENA access system maintenance is to be revised. Didier will communicate the new date.
-During AUG tests as well as during power cuts, as the SUSY system is not on UPS, the access doors to the 193 and 393 buildings are closed (egress always possible). Keys are available from the fire brigade and from the access security people (gardiens).
