This year, CERN is celebrating 70 years of groundbreaking scientific collaboration and innovation, with science communication playing a pivotal role in highlighting these achievements. Join us for an exciting series of events "The Voice of Science" centered on science communication, featuring renowned speakers who will share their expertise and insights into making complex scientific ideas accessible and engaging for all. The events will take place at the CERN Library located in Blg. 52/1-052.
The first talk will be by Zach Weinersmith who is the cartoonist of the webcomic Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal. He also writes popular science books with his wife Kelly like Soonish and A City on Mars. He illustrated the graphic novel Open Borders and wrote the poem for the kids' graphic novel Bea Wolf. His work has been featured in the New York Times, Foreign Policy, Science Friday, the Wall Street Journal, the Economist, Le Monde, and other places he can't remember. He lives on an old farm in Virginia with his wife, two kids, three to five cats, 8 to ten chickens, and one to two dogs.
Zach will give a talk at the CERN Library on 3rd September 2024 at 4pm on science communication, particularly giving tips on how to write popular science and what he would wish science communicators would stop doing along with suggestions for how to get better. The talk will be followed by a Q&A session.
You will also be able to buy his book "A City on Mars" at the CERN Bookshop and have it signed.
