  2. The proto gun v5 request is below for Jean to create a Jira and proceed with production

 

Gunn will provide a final flides with the draft of gun v5 based on the following discussions with James and Adriana.

Compared to Russian design, we need 3 changes:

  1. Make the cathode flange in DN100CF (use covar for Brazing if copper not possible)
  2. Add cooling water pipe on the outside of the gun vacuum chamber (Jean has already designed, make two 10 mm holes for water pipe in exp. solenoid back plate)
  3. Add modulation (wavy) on airside of ceramic (Gunn will provide modulation and size)

 

Electrodes support:

Design the electrodes support with your ideas (something similar to old russian gun ?)

 

Electrode shape (perveance):

Shape is the same as in proto v4, we have it simulated many times (CST, COMSOL, EGUN and TRAK)

 

Ceramic + Flange assembly:

Prepare 2D drawings and discuss with Gunn to see if all ok. An dthen ask external companies to provide quote for it (price and time). For example, Gunn has already contacted following companies and they can produce it.

  1. Kyocera (we have quote, they agreed to also make full assembly)
  2. NTG (they have made copper brazed ceramic for Jocely’s CCC)
  3. ceratec.nl (they replied my email and said they can do it)

 

This way you work on only one design of the gun, v5 and you do it with your time schedule without pressure or deadline. If any difficulties, please talk to Gunn.

 

For the proto gun v4, you have already done the work of designing different cathode ceramics. Thus we test v4 while you design v5.

      1. ECTS new layout with expansion solenoid

      ** electrical safety :finer-hole grid on faraday cage, protection, cage access
      ** new control system with optical fiber
      ** test proto gun v4 with drift solenoid@900 gauss, push above 5keV
      ** use seperate grid power supply ( should be at cern before the end of the week)
      ** cold cathode HV test
      ** hot cathode HV test (grid/cathod shorted)
      ** results will tell, if (1) electrodes shape and (2) ceramic resistance, are acceptable
      ** planned test :
      *** With cold cathode : test at Vk=-35kV with Vgrid=Vcathode then test at Vk=-15kV with Vgrid=0V(grounded)
      *** With hot cathode : test at Vk=-35kV with Vgrid=Vcathode
