JUAS 2024 RF Engineering
Links and download links to software tools used during our sessions
1. Falstad circuit simulator Java applet:
https://www.falstad.com/circuit/
This will be introduced during the Smith chart lecture on Thursday, 22nd Feb, 9 am. In our application of this software two text files are used and can be downloaded from the JUAS InDiCo site:
IdealTL_DCswitched_Z050-RL.txt
IdealTL_pulsed_Z050-RL.txt
The use and test of this Falstad software is completely optional and is for demonstration only.
You can also try to install the code on your computer, but it is not necessary.
2. Smith-Chart software from Fritz Dellsperger:
https://www.fritz.dellsperger.net/smith.html
https://cernbox.cern.ch/s/sBhnmqc1iGEpGhK
This will be used for a demonstration following the Smith chart lecture on Thursday, 22nd Feb, in the morning. The software runs only on Windows PCs, sorry. The software is a free demo version, which is sufficient for our purpose.
3. The QucsStudio circuit simulator software:
https://cernbox.cern.ch/s/sBhnmqc1iGEpGhK
We will have a little demo using QucsStudio, probably before of after the Pillbox Resonator II lecture on Friday, 23rd Feb, 11 am. QucsStudio is a more up-to-date version of Qucs, also this software unfortunately runs only on Windows. You just need to unzip the downloaded file, nothing to be installed, but you may opt to make a Desktop link to “start.bat”. I will upload the related example Qucs file(s), so you can repeat the demo later at home.
4. CST Studio Suite 2024, electromagnetic modelling software:
https://cernbox.cern.ch/s/sBhnmqc1iGEpGhK
This commercial software will be used during the 3D numerical analysis demonstration by Michela on Thursday, 23rd Feb, 10 am. Again, Windows only. We are not using the Student version because of some limitations, instead, we have to full version which requires you to link to the license server that I will setup. After the installation you will be asked for the license setup, please select license server: lapsy355 and License server port: 27000.
ATTENTION: Please connect to the ESI NOMAD WiFi network for this CST Studio lecture!
Please install the software well in-time BEFORE the lecture!
(PS: Download and installation of the CST Studio software may take up to 1 hour!)
Please note, last year we used the Student version of Ansys HFSS 3D, however, we think CST Studio is more intuitive and better adapted for our lecture. Still, feel free to exercise with other EM software like HFSS, which is free available as part of the Ansys Electroncs Desktop – Free version at:
