Atlas Cavern Safety rules

Safety Rules

  1. Note that in case of a major intervention underground or any relevant safety issue in the underground areas, the visits can be postponed or cancelled at the last minute.
  2. The visitors will be given information about the safety risks and safety measures related to their access in the ATLAS underground areas. They will be asked to sign a CERN safety form, that stipulates they have understood and accepted the safety conditions of the visit. The guide prints this form directly from the IMPACT before the visit.
  3. Prior to the visit, the visit organiser must communicate the Visitor Safety Rules to all visitors.
  • flat, closed shoes are mandatory
  • The underground visit is not allowed for pregnant women, minors under the age of 16 as the underground areas visited are classified as supervised radiation areas, persons with reduced mobility (e.g. wheelchair, walking stick, difficulty to walk), as a considerable number of stairs going up and down two floors are present along the path (52 steps in total)    as well as a narrow passage and persons carrying cardiac pacemaker and implantable defibrillator bearers, as in localized areas the magnetic flux density may reach 5 mT. Specific recommendations may apply to other implants or medical devices sensitive to magnetic fields (e.g. electronic medicine dispensers, metallic implants). In this case, please check with your doctor.
