Juan introducing the topic:
- We have today 2 design alternatives for the superonducting cable
- 44 strands x 1.1 mm @ Berkeley, possibly to be delivered by Mars 2025. This cable would be produced after the first TFD cable run. This translates into an insulated cable at CERN by end of summer 2025 (including reception, insulation, verification, etc)
- 40 strands x 1.1 mm @ CERN, for which we have already launched the order for the cabling tooling in case we go for this second option. We could have this cable more or less in the same delays than the previous option.
- The idea for the meeting is to decide on which direction to go.
Ariel presenting the desing status on BOND 14 T:
- The presentation covers the baseline (44 strands x 1.1 mm) but also, only for the single aperture, the alternative design.
- In the baseline, LL margins are 20% @ 1.9 K and 10% @ 4.5 K. Midplane distance is 1.5 mm and interlayer 0.5 mm.
- For the baseline, we have both 2D and 3D magnetic and mechanical models. Only the final 3D design of the endplate and wedge is missing.
- For the alternative version, we maintain the same number of turns. Midplane distance is increased to 3 mm and interlayer to 2 mm. LL margins are 18% @ 1.9 K and 8% @ 4.5 K.
Action items:
- Compute and add critical surface margin for the different alternatives to the slides.
- We fix the alternative option 40 x 1.1 mm
