Description
ROOT’s largest user base is in High-Energy Physics and consequently, most of its functionalities cater to this field. This, however, does not mean ROOT has limited or no place in other areas; its many powerful capabilities such as data storage in compressed binary files, data analysis, modelling and simulation, fitting, data display and even machine learning can be exploited in most other fields of science and technology. Astrophysics and Medical Physics are known areas where ROOT is employed, and a few finance applications show up occasionally in the ROOT Forum (https://root-forum.cern.ch/search?q=finance%20order%3Alatest).
In this poster I will show examples of the use (and needs) of ROOT for over a decade in the field of solar resource assessment, that is, the analysis of solar radiation and other atmospheric phenomena that affect the available solar energy on the surface of the planet, for applications such as solar power production and climate studies.
