Anything to be shared or discussed?
News from Manchester LHCOPN/LHCONE meeting (March 2025) relating to IPv6

Data transfers still using IPv4 and how to flip to IPv6 40m

        Discussion
Is monitoring of V4 versus V6 now complete and reliable?

What is recent IPv6 percentage on LHCOPN?
        And same on LHCONE?

Perhaps look now at Top IPv4-talkers on LHCOPN?
particularly interested in USA/Canada LHCOPN links (BNL, FNAL, TRIUMF) for agenda item later today

Speakers: Bruno Heinrich Hoeft (KIT - Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (DE)), David Kelsey (Science and Technology Facilities Council STFC (GB)), Edoardo Martelli (CERN)

Plans and timetable for IPv6-only 30m

Discussion by all. DaveK may not be available and/or not prepared!

Discuss timetable for removal of IPv4 on data transfers.
Well before start of LH-LHC Run4

What about moving to IPv6-only Workernodes and WLCG clients?

When can we remove IPv4 from WLCG storage services? We often said that this would be the last to go.

Speaker: David Kelsey (Science and Technology Facilities Council STFC (GB))

        Update from USA/ESnet 1h

Could include news from US-ATLAS & BNL
        and US-CMS & FNAL

There is a proposal from ESnet (from recent meeting with US-ATLAS & US-CMS) to turn off IPv4 on LHCOPN between CERN and USA.

Start with this proposal (Shawn McKee? and/or Dale Carder?)

Not just data transfer traffic between CERN (Tier0) and the two Tier1s... But also traffic between US Tier1s and other Tier1 around the globe. Can we determine how the current IPv4 traffic splits between CERN traffic and other Tier1s?

What is the process for "approval" and defining timetables?
Stake holders: ESnet, experiments, Tier0 CERN and all Tier1s,...
WLCG Management Board should be involved

Updates from perfSONAR, RNTWG/SciTags etc - Replace by paper for Oct 2025 LHCOPN meeting? 30m

No talk confirmed - usual speakers not registered

LHCOPN meeting in Karlsruhe - Oct 2025.
We need to draft a paper proposing removal of IPv4 peering on LHCOPN.
And what about on LHCONE as well?
A good time to discuss/agree what needs to be in the paper - agree sections and table of contents now?

      • 10:30
Upcoming conferences and other presentations - so could continue discussion of timetable for IPv6-only deployment 30m

Not aware of anything close - conferences - but is there?

Discuss timetable for removal of IPv4 on data transfers.
What about moving to IPv6-only Workernodes and WLCG clients?

AOB, Dates of next meetings 30m

Next in person meeting. Would be useful to meet again before the LHCOPN/LHCONE meeting in Karlsruhe (October).

So perhaps we can meet at CERN in September 2025? Or would a meeting same week as LHCOPN meeting in Karlsruhe work?

Next meeting after that for a meeting away from CERN - if we do not decide to meet in KIT in October.

One date that would work for DaveK - at CERN - Wed/Thursday 17 and 18 September 2025 - any good?
