10th WG4 General Meeting
→
Europe/Zurich
,
The meeting opened at 15:00 and closed at 15:55.
The number of attendees was stable at 18 and peaked at 19.
General news:
- There is a "MAPS academy" held at KEK at the end of July. Includes training in all main aspects of sensor simulations
Marco Bomben presented work on a Lookup Table Method and Propagator
- Lookup tables are a possible pathway to fast simulations
- A detailed simulation is performed once to generate the lookup tables, and for subsequent simulatiosn the tables are used directly
- For irradiated ATLAS sensors: calculating signal amplitude and propagated charge position for carriers deposited at a certain position in the sensor
- Scanning deposition point across sensor to generate LUTs
- Using the LUTs is 100x faster than performing a full propagation simulation
- Results accurate on the order of 10%
- [LUTPropagator] module implemented in Allpix Squared, merge request submitted
Questions and Answers:
- Gregor K: How do you think we should handle LGADs with this method? MB: For LGADs, the timing is the most important bit. We might want to make a lookup table for that, and gain.
Gregor Kramberger presented work on Simulation of 3D sensor for an 8" 3D project
- Is it possible to progress to something similar to a "wire proportional chamber" in silicon?
- Simulating charge collection in 3D sensors with thin columns/high aspect ratios
- Gain at the collection electrode varies with position on it due to electric field differences
- Simulation of charge collection and ToA show differences under the electrode, and spread across the pixel cell
- Hexagonal trench detectors have been simulated and compared to TPA-TCT measurements, and the resulting time resolution is in agreement.
Questions and Answers:
- Jixing Y: Are these simulations carried out using Allpix Squared? GK: No, this is done using KDetSim. It's a proof-of-concept,. Once we have TCAD fields we may do more thorough simulations.
- Marco M: Is the full 3D simulation carried out in KDetSim? GK: Yes, it it s a full solver
Other business:
- Gregor kramberger suggested that people have a look att he proposed DRD3 projects in the CERN Document Server. There are some groups that might need simulations.
- Simon Spannagel reminded that the 6th Allpix Squared workshop will be held in Amsterdam on the 7th to the 9th of May 2025, and the abstract deadline is the 31st of March.
The next meeting will be held in 4 weeks from now due to a collaboration board meeting. The conveners will also announce the time for the next meeting via email.
