Description

Abstract:

"Acquiring longitudinal profiles in the CERN injector complex is essential for maintaining high beam quality for both the LHC and fixed-target experiments. This presentation will introduce a common framework across the injector chain to continuously monitor longitudinal profiles using digitizers connected to wall current monitors. Specifically, a new class has been developed in the Front-End Sofware Architecture (FESA) framework to improve real-time monitoring of longitudinal beam quality throughout the entire cycle. The new implementation supports efficient data acquisition with highly flexible configuration options, including per-profile and per-cycle setting management. This acquisition class enables bulk reading from the instrument, reducing data transfer time and allowing simultaneous beam monitoring and optimization for multiple users across the CERN accelerator complex. Beyond the raw data acquisition layer, real-time processing scripts have been developed on the Unified Controls Acquisition and Processing (UCAP) platform to perform bunch length analysis, bunch-by-bunch intensity measurements, bunch spacing within the ring, and tomographic reconstruction of the phase space, providing key longitudinal parameters such as momentum spread and emittance. This new monitoring framework paves the way for preparing and executing automated LHC filling and optimizing fixed-target cycles for physic users."
