- Physics start Isolde Friday 28.03.2025
- SPS NA Physics start EHN1 Monday 14.4.2025
- SPS NA Other Physics start Thursday 17.4.2025
- LHC start delayed by ≈ 1 week
Newly vacant beam slots :
- PS T10 - W16, W21-22
- SPS H2 - W16-17 (one possible client)
- SPS H8 - W23-24 (in parallel with UA9)
Please contact SPS.Physics.Coordinator@cern.ch if you want to apply for any of theses slots.
Reminder: Beam time exceeding the limits of 2 weeks PS beam time and 1 week SPS beam time per year need the approval of one of these CERN committees: SPSC, LHCC, DRDC, INTC, RB or IEFC. Consider joining a DRD collaboration, if you require more beam time.
Target intensities:
See below or via ASM (accessible from within the CERN network).

- Important glitch this morning, about 3h downtime finding hardware going into undefined state
- Access for L4 source today over lunch time (12:00-13:30), profiting from the already planned stop for the SPS
- Plenty of “behind the scenes” activities
- Verfication of brightness interlocks for TOF target
- Work on spill with RFKO
- Preparing Hiradmat bunch at 4e11 p+
- TOF parasitic bunch established at 600e10 p+
SPS Machine Report (A. Spierer)
- Ready to extract 30/30/30 to targets
- Beam to NA will stop Thursday 18h for cooldown before foil irratiation on Friday morning
- LHC extraction will start on Friday, LHC short cycle will be present in the sequence
- HiRadMat extraction on Thursday afternoon from 14h
Safety (Marcus Jankowski)
- Please submit the ISIEC requests one week in advance (https://ep-th-safety.web.cern.ch/isiecsafetyclearance)
- A slot is reserved for safety inspections in EHN1 on Wednesdays between 3 pm and 5 pm
- Please wear your PPE (safety shoes, helmet, dosimeter)
n_ToF (Alice Manna and Paolo M Milazzo)
Smooth data taking along week 13.
- Change of experimental set-up in EAR1 on 01.04: removal of the Annular Silicon detector and mounting of 4 C6D6 liquid scintillators set-up
- A diamond detector has been placed at the transmission station, to monitor the neutron flux along all the 2025 data taking campaign
- Removal from the NEAR of the set-up dedicated to Activation mesurements
EAR2 experimental setup
Data taking:
• EAR1: C6D6 detector for the study of the 97,98Mo(n, g) reaction
• EAR2: study of the 87Sr(n, g) reaction
• NEAR: Study of radiation hardness for a diamond detector
Protons received
East Area Beam Status (D. Banerjee)
T09: Good operation. Running with the longer spill of 0.8 s and close to 5E11 protons on target per spill with 15 GeV protons.
T10: Good operation. Thankfully, a quieter week for T10.
T11: No user.
East Area Users Tour de Table
T8 Main: IRRAD/CHARM (F. Ravotti / S. Fiore)
Smooth operation week in T8. Despite the two access slots within the week, we integrated a proton fluence very close to our weekly reference intensity (>2.1E16 p/w). Since in CHARM there were no users this week (calibration run still ongoing) there is no measurement of TID in the plot below. Beam centering on T8 was very good on both axes (>93-94% of the time center within +/- 2mm).
During the weekely acces of Wed. April 2nd, new samples were added. In IRRAD now we have an experiment from SY-BI and samples from TE-MSC, EP-DT (plastic and insulation materials) and LHCb TimeSPOT. In CHARM we started the year with tests by 2 teams in BE-CEM, including a new test position close to the target that has been qualified last year.
Next access will be on Wednesday 9.
T9 Main: WCTE (Bruno Pereira Ferrazzi)
We are acquiring high-quality beam data using our beam monitors and working towards calibrating them to fully understand their performance. Our recent scan-mode data collection focuses on optimizing TOF and charge separation. We’ve also installed a new setup for tagged gamma data. We are making progress integrating the mPMTs readout with the beam monitors, and also improving the LED calibration process.
T10 Main: BI STRAW (Robert Garbrecht Larsen)
Beamtime concluded sucessfully.
T10 Main: MEDIPIX (Please Put Your Name Here)
T10 Incoming Main: ALICE ITS3 (Week 15) (Paolo Martinengo)
Ready to take the beam
I received the notification concerning the availability of the DESY table
We would like to try the 800 ms flat top spill
Safety inspection already scheduled
We are interested in week 22
North Area Beam Status (D. Banerjee)
- HWC almost completed.
- Two collimators needed to be exchanged in M2.
- Beam permits are being signed.
Main HiRadMat (A. Goillot, N. Charitonidis)
- Comissioning started on Tuesday 01.04, unfortunately beam could not be extracted until very late (21h00).
- Issues also on acc-py permissions prevented us to proceed in full efficiency. All were corrected and understood.
- Continuation of the beam comissioning today afternoon @ 14h00.
