The author of the new book "A Modern Take on Physics" will give a talk at the CERN Library:

Abstract:

"A Modern Take on Physics" presents a radically new approach to physics teaching: classical physics is re-read and reconstructed from the outset using the language and concepts of modern physics. States, operators, interactions and energy become the fundamental building blocks, overcoming traditional teaching schemes based on forces and mechanical laws. This change of perspective allows for a more coherent and profound understanding of phenomena, paving the way for teaching that is more current, accessible and close to contemporary scientific thinking. The presentation will be an opportunity to discover this innovative proposal and discuss its teaching potential.

The event will be followed by a Q&A and signing sessions. The book is available from the CERN Library & Bookshop.

About the author: 

Giovanni Organtini is a professor of experimental physics at Sapienza Università di Roma. After spending more than 20 years working in high-energy physics experiments, he began working in physics education with the aim of radically changing the traditional way of teaching. While still working on the CMS experiment at LHC (CERN) and the Padme experiment at LNF (Italy), he is recognised worldwide as one of the leading experts in active learning with Arduino and smartphones. He is also interested in the relationship between science and art for the development of innovative and up-to-date science education.
