Useful information

The internships will take place in both France and Switzerland. The ALICE experiment is located on French territory, but the workplace will be in Switzerland. Due to frequent border crossings, it is recommended to always carry an identity document.

Transport:

There are several ways to get from the hotel to CERN:

  • On foot – about a 40-minute walk;
  • Bicycle (possibility to rent from CERN) – cost 1 CHF/day;
  • CERN Shuttle (about 1300 m walk required) – free of charge;
  • Bus (about 600 m walk required) – cost 1.4 EUR + 3 CHF (single ride);
  • Car sharing (rental possible for up to 12 hours, spatial limitations, can be used for commuting to CERN) – free of charge, but reservation issues may occur.

 

Costs:

Prices in Switzerland are much higher than in France. A supermarket is located not far from the hotel (on the French side). CERN has a canteen, with meal prices around 10 CHF. A daily ticket in Geneva costs 10 CHF (or 8 CHF if purchased after 9 a.m.).
