PSB LS3 Modifications
-
- Update - Splitting of quad vacuum chambers in Periods 3, 4, 10, 13, 14 & 15
- https://trackit.cern.ch/track/121267
- ACTIONS:
- The gap between flanges may be due to discrepancies between different 3D models, 2D drawings, and as-built data.
- INT and VSC will review the various references in the drawings and 3D models to ensure the correct ones are being used.
- An update of the 3D models and drawings for the periods to be modified will be carried out.
- The test for removing the PUs in Period 14 should be scheduled as soon as possible in order to validate the overall study and begin manufacturing.
- Integration remains feasible.
-
- Dismantling of BR.DHZ/DVT15L1 corrector stack
- https://trackit.cern.ch/track/123878
- ACTIONS:
- The corrector stack will be completely removed, leading to a significant change in the configuration:
- The vacuum chambers will be replaced with new models and supports.
- VSC will share the updated 3D models and drawings with INT to allow for the integration model and study to be updated accordingly.
-
- PS Booster Magnets Triplets Replacement
- https://trackit.cern.ch/track/113153
- ACTIONS:
- The replacement will be like-for-like.
- Detailed 3D models will be produced, so a simplified version must be provided.
- INT must update its database with the new models, which will include two different variants.
- No further integration study is required, but a follow-up is necessary to update the INT documentation.
-
- Consolidation of BE.BSW (extraction bumper magnets)
- ACTIONS:
- The original drawings of the BSW are incorrect, which means the simplified model produced by INT based on them is also inaccurate.
- The actual aperture of the bumpers differs significantly in dimensions.
- An integration verification of the new detailed model is required, as the fitting of the components is challenging and space is very limited.
- This issue must be followed up in the ICL meetings.
- A corrected simplified model also needs to be produced.
Update - BTY Modifications:
-
- BTY 2GeV Project
- https://trackit.cern.ch/track/112553
- ACTIONS:
- IINT has proposed the two solutions discussed during the last ICL. Both options are technically feasible, but a decision must be made to select one of them.
INT will continue the study taking both into account: a multi-section vacuum chamber or a modification of the SEM Grid.
- The increased aperture at the exit of the dipole, in the Y-chamber, also needs to be decided. The proposed increase has not been approved by ABT. If the existing smaller diameter is retained, the implementation of the multi-section chamber appears to be the more viable option.
- The current magnet configuration corresponding to the 9.652º angle has been approved by ABT.
- Both PSB BTY magnets need to be rotated. However, the angle information provided by INT and MSC does not match. An ad hoc meeting will be required to clarify and resolve the discrepancy.
- Pit excavation: SCE must assess whether excavating only the necessary volume —instead of the entire pit— would be more appropriate for them.
If the full excavation is avoided, the pump will need to be rotated and a new support structure designed accordingly.
It is also important to note that this approach would slightly complicate the transport of the quadrupole.
- A scaffolding will be installed on top of the BTM to facilitate the removal of the existing components.
This scaffolding will then be reinforced or extended to cover and protect the BTM line, as it will remain in place during operations.
- The mechanical supports of the BTY line components must be redesigned — the mechanical design office will be involved.
- The current integration proposal may serve as a reference for the modification of the vacuum chambers, but VSC will evaluate the necessary changes and proceed with the redesign accordingly.
- On the ISOLDE side, the rotation of the magnet also needs to be verified.
- The chamber inside the magnet must not exceed a diameter of 76 mm. After this section, an increased diameter may be considered if required.
- ABT must validate the configuration of the QFO304 and CR200 magnets.
- The vacuum chambers of the CR200 magnets currently have a diameter of 98 mm. MSC would prefer to reduce this in order to avoid potential interference with the magnets.
- Beam stoppers upgrade and replacement in BTY line
- BTV consolidation on the BTY line
- https://trackit.cern.ch/track/124089
- ACTIONS:
- The BTVs consolidation integration is feasible. INT has proposed modifying the quadrupole chambers in some cases, as it appeared to be the simplest solution. VSC will verify whether this is the approach that has been adopted.
- To accommodate one of the BTVs, the corrector magnet (MCC124) must be shifted approximately 60 mm downstream. This is considered feasible.
- The integration proposal is acceptable for SY-BI.
- Preventive replacement of 6 BTY line quadrupoles (Q130)
- ACTIONS:
- The integration of the new magnets is feasible, and there are no issues regarding the available space.
- The integration study considers the option of producing two independent chambers to facilitate quadrupole operations.
- The method of supporting the magnets —whether by reusing the existing structure or by modifying it— will be discussed throughout the integration study.
- A simplified model is required.
- Fire Compartment Integration
- https://trackit.cern.ch/track/111889
- ACTIONS:
- The proposed solution for the fire door is acceptable for the other services.
- The cable tray on the wall must be relocated together with the BCT.
- The future fire door must be adapted to the surrounding infrastructure and services.
- HE will install a ceiling-mounted rail to lift the quadrupole.
- Smoke barrier Integration:
- Survey line of sight between BTY and ISOLDE zone:
- ACTIONS:
-
- The proposed solution is even simpler than the one previously suggested by the Integration team: a plate will be directly mounted onto the wall using screws.
- The INT model must be updated.
Update - Power Converters Installation 355-359-365
- https://trackit.cern.ch/track/107646
- ACTIONS:
- It is essential for CV to provide the 3D models of the water-cooling system for the integration study, or at least give sufficient feedback regarding their activities.
- SCE is responsible for the design and definition of the support structures for the power converters.
- HE specifications must be respected in the design and modification of on-site structures.
- BE-CEM must be contacted regarding the removal request of the two racks inside Building 355.
- The SCE 3D model of Building 355 should be updated to reflect the as-built situation.
- CV will use the existing cooling station in Building 355.
- A drilling operation is needed to connect the cabling from Building 365 to the PS Ring.
