AGENDA:

  • News
  • Design of the mechanical structure
  • General discussion

News:

  • N. Peray and M. Canale finished the drawings for the components that go throught reaction heat treatment. By Thursday this week, the drawing folder will be shared with P. Moyret to start launching the price enquiry.
    • Drawings are not signed yet. They are just for consultation.
    • L. Gentini will be in charge of the first signature.
    • Expected delay for having an answer is 2-4 weeks. Offers by mid-May.
    • Thursday 8th May starting from 14:00: General review in person of all drawings, organized by Juan Carlos
      • Participants: J.C. Perez, N. Peray, N. Bourcey, N. Lusa, A. Haziot, L. Gentini, M. Canale, J. Ferradas, E. Fernandez, V. Roxenborg
    • Preliminary review to be organized by others in advance if needed.
  • We have the first results of the SS-bar mockup with linear bearings.
    • The witness part remained glued to the pushing finger. Nevertheless, we dismounted the bar and everything was correctly sliding.
    • Difficult to conclude anything. It seems that the sliding system worked properly but the witness remained glued.
    • The test will be repeated, a MICA spacer is placed in between the pushing finger and the witness part
  • N. Peray is working on the impregnation mold.
  • N. Peray will take in parallel a look at the retort solution ("sarcofage")
    • Welded
    • Clamped
    • Bolted with copper sealing
    • Old retort from first SMC (Borel oven)
    • Other?
  • M. Canale started to work on the 3D mechanical structure

Mechanical Structure:

  • Coil rails will be machined. This is our baseline.
  • Separate meeting to be organized for the structure development
  • We keep space for 4 layers of 0.125 mm ground insulation at the coilpack level
  • Baseline is one full-length shell
  • 4 M8 holes per side to handle the shells
  • Thick yoke laminations for BOND (as RMM)
  • During assembly, perform preliminary measurements on cavity parallelism, etc (as done for MQXF in 2015).
  • Endplate optimization to be performed
  •  First proposal for a “local bladder master” (sort of casing) presented to N. Bourcey and J. Ferradas. We asked for some modifications and we are waiting for the new solution.

ACTION ITEMS:

  • Thursday 8th May starting from 14:00: General review in person of all drawings, organized by Juan Carlos
  • N. Peray will take a look at the retort solution ("sarcofage")
  • N. Bourcey to check if the old retort from first SMC is still available (Borel oven)
  • N. Bourcey to provide a list of the bladder size available (now and future)
  • J. Ferradas to organize the meetings to report about the advancement on the mechanical structure
  • N. Bourcey to prepare a summary on the experience (problems) with ground insulation for FRESCAII.
  • N. Peray (+ N. Bourcey) to organize a specific meeting for the configuration of the ground insulation
  • J. Ferradas to compute the impact of having 1 full shell or 2 half-shells
  • J. Ferradas to check with M. Guinchard for the simulations concerning the definition of mechanical instrumentation
  • M. Canale to provide a prelimianry drawing for the shell with the same tolerances as RMM/MQXF and give it to P. Moyret.
    • Final shell length needs to be established after iterations on coil ends / layer jump.
  • All: To prepare a list of QA controls that we need (Dimensional control at manufacturer, material certificate, dimensional control at CERN, inclusions on raw ARMCO material)
  • M. Canale and N. Peray to come with a proposal for the endplate. Vendela and Jose to analyze / simulate the different cases.
