How to reach CERN

From COINTRIN, GENEVA AIRPORT to CERN

The CERN shuttle service does NOT operate at this time.

Public transport, you can buy a 'Tout Geneve' ticket for 3CHF at the machines at the bus and tram stops and allows you to travel for 1 hour (including changes):
Bus 23/28/57 until Blandonnet then tram 18 or bus 68
Credit card are accepted.

Taxi: The journey takes about 10 minutes and costs roughly 30-40 CHF

From CORNAVIN TRAIN STATION (downtown Geneva) to CERN

From Cornavin (the stop is to the right of the station, on a covered walkway), you can take tram 18 in the direction of CERN. The "Tout Geneve" ticket costs 3CHF and allows you to travel for 1 hour (including changes). The tickets can be bought from the machines at the tram and bus stops. Credit cards are accepted.  
Taxi from the station to CERN costs approximately 45chf.

TRAVELLING BY CAR

FROM THE AIRPORT TO GENEVA

To get to Geneva from the airport you can take the train from the airport to Geneva Cornavin station. The trip takes some 10 minutes.

ONCE AT CERN 

If you have a room in the hostel and arrive on Sunday evening, the guards at the CERN main entrance (B) will have your name on the guest list. Please bring your reservation confirmation. More information about the hostel can be found here. Hotel information can be found here.

For detailed maps of CERN, you can enter building numbers in the search box at the top of the  CERN maps. The hostel buildings are numbers 38, 39, 41, the reception is 33, the main auditorium is 500, the restaurant is in building 501.

Please note that in order to obtain your CERN access card to enter the site, details and a link to obtain an access card will be sent to you before the workshop.

CHILDCARE

If you are traveling with a child and will be accompanied by another adult (e.g. a spouse or relative), we recommend reaching out to the CERN hostel in advance to explain your situation and request clarification regarding accommodation eligibility and options.

Please note that childcare or daycare services in the Geneva area are typically difficult to arrange on short notice, and tend to be limited and expensive for short-term stays. While we cannot provide childcare directly, you may find additional pointers and resources here.

When you arrive at CERN, connect your device to the "CERN Visitors" Wi-Fi (Internet-only access) or use the Eduroam network with your host institution's credentials (a page accepting the CERN rules will be proposed to you the first time you connect).
