SUMMARY:

  • 3D Engineering models:
    • CATIA models and drawings:
      • On-going: Update accounting for the new cable geometry (SCD spec. update). The target is to finish, at latest, early next week.
    • Same logic applies for ANSYS/OPERA and ROXIE models. We need to update all models to have a clean reference. Not yet started.

  • Decision on 2-layer pole:
    • The winding pole will be split in two layers. It is deemed advantageous in terms of coil manufacturing. Same as HD3.

  • Decision on RHT bearing system:
    • Based on the mock-up tests, we all agree that we should go for the circular bearings.
        • Easier inspection
        • Redundancy (in principle, more forgiving in case of failure)

Detailed notes:

General comments:

  • Please provide comments if we want to adjust the time for the usual slot.
  • New cable geometry from SCD. We are updating all 3D models (CATIA ones finished before the end of the week).
  • For assembly sequence / procedure: quotation changed from the general drawing to the one of each part.

Structure:

  • Vendela almost done. First results expected before the end of the week.
  • On how we present the 3D models. Assembly work from return end side.

Sarcophagus:

  • Work on-going by Matthieu and Nico. Some discussions with EN-MME last week.
  • Option A) Placing the BOND sarcophagus inside the one we have in the oven (reduced space).
  • Option B) Remove the table from the oven and try to make more space.
  • Option C) Remove the sarcophagus from the oven completely (we remove all inertia, another interface, etc. It may be better).
  • ACTION ITEM:
    • We consider the volume available inside the oven at B.927. We try to fit inside. We will come back to this as soon as the guiding system is ready. We need to have it by July more or less, in order to have it available for the first reaction.

Guiding system:

  • DIC will be made before the end of the month. In parallel, we try to cycle it and check.
  • ACTION ITEM: We cannot wait too much for taking a decision.
    • Based on the mock-up tests, we all agree that we should go for the circular bearings.
  • Matthieu / Nico to start working on the system.

Winding tests:

  • Recall: The fiber around the pole is desized.
  • The logic for the new winding tests with BOND cable would be, in order:
    • 1) Winding test without cable insulation, to see the cable stability.
      • Winding test with the pole insulation just glued on small spots. We can test a very volatile glued that is used for MQXFB.
    • 2) Winding with insulated cable
  • The tests were done, this time, directly with the insulated cable to have a fast response:
  • Further winding tests:
    • Try to gently remove the insulation to see the condition of the cable
    • Test with copper cable (to be sure if it collapses with 20 kg tension during the easy-way turn): Try to characterize at which tension the Cu cable collapses.
  • It seems that a two layer pole is advantageous in terms of manufacturing.
    • We switch to two layer pole.
    • Indexing one dowell pin and one circular slightly elongated
    • Staggered poles (inner and outer) by around 20 mm (MQXF). Nico to verify the MQXF configuration.
