      Minutes and Matters Arising
      • a) News from EuroHPC Federation Meeting
Speaker: Dr Tommaso Boccali (INFN Sezione di Pisa)

The meeting was held on Sep 25th, link at https://indico.cern.ch/event/1586866/.

Many thanks to all the (WLCG) speakers, the feeling we got is that it was really informative. Minutes are in preparation (well, they are done since long, waiting for an ok on EFP side before distributing).

In general while the political side is "complex" (we were reminded many times that the inclusion of new domains is not funded in the first phase of EFP), on the technical side there seem to be interest.

The first phase will be "ready for initial testing" in the first months of 2026, and we (as HEP) will be invited for tests / an evaluation.

Clearly, a decision on whether to embark in some integration work stays in the experiments / centers / nations, and on whether they see an interest / possible outcomes.

When we are able to finalize the minutes, we can have a further discussion (next MB?)

      • b) Report from CB meeting
        Speaker: Simone Campana (CERN)
      • c) Comments to the ESPP Briefing Book draft
Speaker: Dr Tommaso Boccali (INFN Sezione di Pisa)

As per the message from the ESPP Chair on Oct 2nd,

        "

the Physics Briefing Book, which provides important input for the 2026 update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics, has been released by the Physics Preparatory Group and is available via this link:

        https://cds.cern.ch/record/2944678

        "

While the content is final, the group is still accepting requests to fix mistakes, with a final deadline of Oct 27th. Of course, in order to be effective, comments / fixes should reach us a few days in advance.

Some were already received (fixes for references, numbers, specific adjectives, ...) and will be incorporated.

Please note that at this point major changes will not be possible...

        Please send requests to

        Tommaso.Boccali@cern.ch

        Borut.Kersevan@cern.ch

A note: specifically for the Computing part, the doc was already shared with the community (projects, experiments, ...) on Sept 12th, and most of the answers have been considered.

TCB Report to WLCG MB #333 on Tuesday, October 14, 2025

      • Apologies that the TCB Chairs are unable to attend this meeting of the MB, but we are concurrently chairing OTF#7 [Indico] hosted at the FTS and XRootD Workshop [Indico] in Barcelona this afternoon. There are presentations from both the FTS and XRootD development teams on their planning, as well as a talk about XRootD monitoring plans and status.

      • Work on the Technical Roadmap is progressing well for several chapters. There was a presentation about the networking chapter of the Technical Roadmap document [Indico] with high-level milestones and risks considered at the LHCONE/LHCOPN Workshop last week. We have been scheduling meetings with individual chapter facilitators on the other topics in the meantime.

      • We also gave a presentation [Indico] about the role and functions of the TCB at the same meeting. One comment was that ESnet is very interested in trying to help the experiments close their foreseen disk requirement gaps in the mid-2030s with network-based solutions, something interesting to be followed up on.

      • A block agenda has been fixed for the December WLCG Workshop on Heterogeneous Architectures [Indico]. We will begin soliciting specific talks from the experiments, software projects, AI/ML researchers, et al.

      • Regarding WLCG MB Action item 230620-03, “Invite the HEPiX Benchmarking Working Group to work on GPU benchmarking and accounting”, please note that there was a comprehensive presentation about the status of GPU benchmarking in HEPScore at last week’s HEPiX Benchmarking Working Group meeting from Domenico Giordano and Robin Hofsaess from CERN-IT [Indico]. A lot of work has been done and significant progress has been made on GPU benchmarking. We hope to have a GPU benchmarking presentation at the December Workshop to get a better understanding and consensus in the community of the short- and long-term plans on this topic.

Please let us know of any comments or questions which we can follow up with after the meeting.
