Uttiya Sarkar
Uttiya Sarkar is a post-doctoral researcher at RWTH Aachen University, currently based at CERN. He did his PhD from Tata Institute of Fundamental Physics, Mumbai India and specializes in data analysis of new physics searches in supersymmetry. Right now, he is involved in developing machine learning techniques in flavour physics. Currently contributing to the CMS experiment at CERN, he also serves as the Level-3 convener for the flavour tagging in the high level trigger group, leading efforts on b-jet performance and triggering strategies.
Debabrata Bhowmik
I am Debabrata Bhowmik, a high energy particle physicist. I earned my Ph.D. from the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics in Kolkata, India, and have been a postdoctoral researcher at National Central University, Taiwan since 2022, based at CERN, Switzerland.
My contributions to detector operations include the calibration of the CMS hadron calorimeter using isolated track techniques, with further focus on mitigating pile-up effects. Additionally, I am engaged in one of the future detector developments of CMS called High Granularity Calorimeter (HGCal), including participation in beam tests and helping to establish a laboratory at NCU, Taiwan for silicon sensor quality testing of HGCal.
Beyond my involvement in physics analyses, object performance, and detector studies, I have served CMS in several coordination roles:
-
Level-3 Convener for Electron and Photon Identification (2021–2023)
-
Level-3 Convener for High-Level Trigger for Electrons and Photons (2023–present)
-
High-Level Trigger Contact for the Electromagnetic Calorimeter (2024–present)
-
Preservation Contact for the New Physics with Standard Objects Group (2024–present)
