Topical meeting on FCC-ee beam-dust interactions
Description
- Briefly summarize the present efforts to understand beam-dust interactions in hadron and lepton machines
- Get an overview of available tools/models/studies/experiments and identify the teams who are working (or plan to work in the future) on the different sub-topics:
- Dust charging mechanisms in electron/positron storage rings (dependence on beam parameters, etc.)
- Release of dust into the beam (dependence on dust material, dust size, pre-charge, etc.)
- Particle-dust interaction (dust ionisation, resulting dust dynamics, dust trapping, dust heating, phase transition incl dependence on dust material, dust fission, etc.)
- Effect on beam after a phase transition (due to released electrons or ions)
- Local and global beam losses, including collimation
- Discuss the possible next steps for studying beam-dust interactions for FCC-ee, in view of the FCC pre-TDR in 2027
- Identify possible benchmark studies against existing measurements from LHC and SuperKEKB
Disclaimer: the scope of the meeting is not to give a detailed summary of results, but rather to develop a first work plan for FCC-ee beam-dust studies
