Collin is currently a PhD student at Rice University, working on the CMS experiment. He has been active in the Cathode Strip Chamber (CSC) subdetector group, studying detector longevity with more ecological gas mixtures in preparation for the Phase-2 upgrade of the HL-LHC. He is also contributing to searches for anomalous couplings in the electroweak sector using an EFT framework, as well as to beyond the Standard Model (BSM) searches for pair produced axion-like particles decaying into dimuons.

Darin Acosta is a professor in the at Rice University in the Department of Physics & Astronomy.  His experimental work focuses on the online data selection of muons using electronics in the Level-1 trigger system, where sophisticated algorithms and machine learning are used. His group’s physics analyses involve searches for new particles that decay to muons, as well as Higgs boson measurements. He helped coordinate the commissioning of the CMS experiment when the LHC first began operations.

Derek Grove

Hi! I'm Derek Grove, a PhD Candidate from the University of Kansas working on the CMS experiment. My research interests are, obviously, high energy physics but I really prefer the hardware/experimental side of things. I've done extensive work with the current Pixel subsystem of CMS as well as plenty of testing on the Phase2 pixel modules that will be installed during the HL CMS Upgrade. I'm passionate about physics communication and outreach so by all means please reach out and ask questions!

CMS virtual visits technical experts:

Noemi Beni

Zoltan Szillasi

Zoltan and Noemi, physicists, PhD in particle physics

During the last 20 years, they have been working for Hardware Muon Barrel Alignment System and Fiber Optical Sensing System at CMS

Their big hobby has been the CMS Virtual visits since the beginning.
