How can teamwork be specifically integrated into the training of engineers? What long-term potential is fostered in students, and can this lead to sustainable success for companies or for individual careers through different team behaviors?
Prof. Dr. Arntz from Aachen University of Applied Sciences reports on this in his lecture on “pro8.” This is a team competition with an award-winning educational concept, which has been held annually in the Department of Mechanics and Mechatronics since 2008.
All approximately 100 second-semester students in the faculty are given the task of working in teams to develop solutions to a specific technical problem from practice, documenting them at bachelor's level, and presenting them professionally.
In order to make pro8 a positive achievement and a lasting team experience for the students, special effort is put into team composition and support.
Colleagues from HL-LHC WP8 (Collider Experiment Interface) provided the problem for pro8 2025 and were able to support parts of the project work in February. The winning group was invited by the HL-LHC project to visit CERN.
Prof. Dr. Kristian Arntz will explain the concept behind pro8 and present some highlights and results from over 15 years.
Following the presentation, you are cordially invited to join the four teachers, two coaches, and the seven students from the winning team of the pro8-2025 project competition for coffee and discussion.
The event is organized by O. Boettcher (BE-EA / HL-LHC WP8) in collaboration with the HL-LHC Project office.
