Dear all,
Following our discussion and several internal checks, please find below the agreed plan for the stiffness measurements:
At Room Temperature :
- Tensile tests will be performed on the three supplied cables (2 kA, 18 kA, 5x18 kA and the 4x2 kA cables), each 495 mm in length.
- Measurements will include:
• DIC measurements (distance between the two cable extremities and the clamping systems)
• Crosshead position
- Tests will be carried out up to 7000 N with unloading/loading cycles at 10%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of the maximum force.
At 77 K :
- Tensile tests will first be repeated at room temperature on one cable (4x2 kA cables) with a reduced length (< 200 mm), using DIC and crosshead position, without the cryostat.
- After this reduced-length room temperature test, the cryostat will be installed, and the test will be repeated without DIC but with crosshead position measurements.
Schedule :
- Room temperature tensile tests are planned for the beginning of next week (Tuesday/Wednesday). Test settings are currently being prepared.
- Depending on your availability to reduce the cable/bundle length, the 77 K test can likely be carried out next Friday or the following Monday.
- Later, all the cable configurations will be tested at 77K.
Additional points :
- To complete the measurement campaign, it would be better to test at least three samples per configuration. Could you please prepare it following the first test scheduled next week?
Best regards,
Michael
