Scientific Programme

The AcceleratePM – Project Management in Accelerator and Large Research Infrastructure Projects – workshop will bring together scientists, engineers, and project professionals to share experiences, methods, and reflections on how project management can best support the realization of complex scientific facilities. The focus will be on exchange and learning across disciplines, highlighting both successful practices and persistent challenges in developing a sound PM culture within the community.

Structure and Themes
The programme will be organized around the three main phases of project management:

1. Initiating
• Experiences from projects in their early stages
• Project office organisation and governance structures
• Building a project management culture
• Process and data integration; software infrastructure and interconnection
• Cost estimate and granularity of planning
• Requirement Management
• Reporting structures and stakeholder mapping
• Communication flows and interfaces

2. Executing
Experiences from projects in progress
• Monitoring and control practices
• Procurement strategy
• Change management
• Scope drift, forecasting, and re-baselining
• Risk and contingency management
• Software support and in-kind contribution management
• External reviews, impact and worth

3. Closing
• Experiences from projects nearing completion
• Lessons learned from large and “mega-projects”
• Legacy building and knowledge transfer
• Open issues across the community
• Identified weaknesses and areas for improvement

Focus and Scope

Transversal presentations that cross traditional PM domains will provide a higher-level perspective and propose take-away messages applicable to diverse project contexts. Contributions highlighting how a project management culture is being implemented, adapted, and improved in science-driven environments are especially encouraged.
