      Physics

      • On GPS, ¹³⁵Cs beams were mass-separated from an external source, since a previous attempt had shown that proton-induced production with an ISOLDE target was not successful. The goal was to produce a sample for use at the n_TOF facility to study the astrophysical s-process. An acceptable amount of atoms was collected in the sample for the subsequent n_TOF-near experiment, which is preliminarily foreseen for early 2026.
      • On HRS, neutron-deficient indium beams were delivered to the CRIS experiment to perform laser spectroscopy and study nuclear structure around the double-magic ¹⁰⁰Sn region. This was the fourth experiment in a campaign focused on this part of the nuclear chart. Since the yields were unfortunately about a factor of ten lower than requested, the most exotic isotope, ⁹⁹In, was out of reach. However, a reasonable amount of statistics was collected for ¹⁰⁰In, helped at least in part by the higher intensity available over the weekend. The run is still ongoing, and the team will also study a few less exotic isotopes that were missing in the chain. In addition, they have commissioned a new decay station at CRIS, which allows the collection of selective isomer and ground-state decay data. Using lasers to choose the isomer or ground state of interest, they can either record the corresponding decay or, conversely, separate ground states and isomers in the hyperfine spectra by selecting the decay specific to that state.
