Making 100GbE4FE a reality - Designing small-scale configurable modules and prototyping systems management 50m Zoom conference room (Virtual Event)

      Zoom conference room

      Virtual Event

This talk will focus on the work done within the 100GbE4FE project to bridge the gap between custom datalinks and commercial networking.

We will dive into the development of miniature FPGA modules that fit within standard SFP and QSFP transceiver housings, allowing them to plug directly into COTS hardware. These modules are envisioned to form a network of small, easy-to-deploy units, allowing the conversion of custom protocols into standard Ethernet, without the need for a full Backend board.

A prototype for the large-scale management of these units at data-center scale will be presented, using well-established networking and software tools to empower quick commissioning and maintenance. This discussion will also include important considerations that had to be made to enable this from the perspectives of hardware, firmware and software.
