Description

Full propagation of individual charge carriers in semiconductor sensor simulations can be quite costly and does not scale well when integrated into e.g. full-experiment simulations. Furthermore, sharing such simulations requires disclosing sensor details such as the electric field.
Lookup-table based propagation provides a performant alternative. Initially a probability-based lookup table is generated from full-detail simulations, and exported. This lookup table can then be used in other frameworks and contexts, or, in further Allpix Squared simulations. They relate initial charge carrier creation points with a probability map of final charge carrier destinations on the sensor surface. This both allows capturing sensor intricacies and enables a one-lookup transport of the charge carrier to the surface. Lookup tables can include effects from radiation-induced damage, magnetic fields and non-linear electric fields.
This contributions highlights the lookup table integration into Allpix Squared and demonstrates how to generate und use such lookup tables.
